What is the least expensive way to travel Rte 66 E to W?
I want to rent a car from Chicago [WHERE RTE 66 STARTS] drive to L.A. [WHERE RTE 66 ENDS] and fly home. I also read that taking a train from Albuquerque [IN NEW MEXICO-YES N.M. IS PART OF THE USA] to L.A. was a safe bet considering crossing the desert is pretty harsh. But driving a rental one way costs extra - anyway to get around that? I don't think, even if I had the time, that driving my own car would be a wise choice. It's pretty new, but mechanics have a way of making my cars old fast so i'd rather avoid meeting them on the road. BTW It's all about the traveling with my family, not about breaking records. P.S. IF YOUR NOT SURE AND YOU'RE NOT GOING TO DO ANY RESEARCH HOW ABOUT YOU DON'T ANSWER. I CAN MAKE UP DUMB SCENERIOS ALL BY MYSELF.

Bear with me for a while I'll get back to you with the right answer .Friggin YA just made me lose 5 paragraphs by asking for a password. One would think that all this high -tech stuff would know when somebody was in the middle of writing something or at the very least would give a warning " Hi Mr.Danger , In exactly five minutes we are going to be asking you for a password, please finish up whatever you are writing so you don't get mad at YA when we dump it Thank you Mr.Danger."

a couple things about traveling route 66. I suggest that you rent a car and drive to L.A. and fly back (check with Southwest Airlines they have the cheapest routes at this time). The route runs close to interstates all the way so do not be afraid to drive the desert. Count on at least 10 days to make the trip all the way assuming you stop and some of the attractions. Please take a look at website www.historic66.com. There are maps and guides that tell much about the road and some of its attractions. I bought the maps and guides from there and am well pleased with them. I wish you a safe and enjoyable trip. If you have more questions, feel free to email me.
