About traveling from Albuquerque to San Miguel de Allende. Any advice

Traveling from Albuquerque to San Miguel de Allende. Any advice?
I will be driving from Albuquerque to San Miguel de Allende in central Mexico. It will be just me and another woman. I have never been to this part of Mexico and was looking for some advice on what cities we should stay in and where along the way we can fill up the gas tank. I understand there are stretches (like I-10 through western Texas) where there are little or no amenities. We are considering traveling from Albuquerque to Chihuahua in one day, Chihuahua to Aguascalientes the next day and then onto San Miguel de Allende on the 3rd day. Also it should be noted that I speak limited Spanish and my travel companion speaks no Spanish at all. We will be traveling to visit a friend in San Miguel and bringing a lot of ceramic artwork such as large vases with us. Neither of us have done a road trip through Mexico before although we have traveled by road through parts of the US. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks! To clarify, the ceramic work we're taking is my work to be exhibited in my friends's gallery. I juest mentioned it so that it is clear that it is two women with little knowledge of Spanish traveling with a lot of expensive artwork. Sorry I didn't initially give more details.

Check with your car insurance provider, you probably won't be covered in Mexico. So you'll need Mexican car insurance--click the first link below. To get a Mexican Vehicle Permit, you'll need: Proof of car ownership Proof of American registration An affidavit from any lien holders authorizing temporary importation A valid American driver's license Proof of citizenship (like a passport) A credit card (they'll record the number and if you don't take the car back to the US, you'll be charged based on the value of the car. At the border you'll both need to get your Tourist Cards (unless you get them at a consulate before leaving). To get through all this red tape, it's sometime a good idea to spend a night on the US side of the border and get an early morning start in Mexico, because it's not a good idea to drive at night. There's only one kind of gas station in Mexico--Pemex (the state run oil company). they only take pesos, so get some during your border crossing process. Start looking for the next Pemex station when your gas tanks gets below half--that should give you enough leeway. If you do run out of gas or break down, pull off to the side of the road; raise your hood and wait for a Green Angel truck (there's a phone number in the second link below). The toll roads are fast but expensive. It may cost you about $100 (1000 pesos) getting to SMA, depending on where your border crossing is. And the toll booths don't take dollars either, so you'll need pesos for them too. When you're off the toll roads, keep a lookout for speed bumps called TOPES. There may be a sign saying "TOPES" or a sign that looks like two bumps--they're not fun to hit a high speed. MY question: Isn't taking pottery to Mexico like taking coal to Newcastle?

Well rhino 720 has give you good tips, since he told you about all the fees and stuff, I´ll tell you about the fun part...You will be traveling along what it used to be the Camino Real to Santa Fe, So I´ll suggest you read a little about it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Camino_Real_de_Tierra_Adentro First try to cross the border at Santa Teresa, avoid Juarez then make your way to Chihuahua city, make a stop at Villa Ahumada buy some Asadero Cheese is pretty good; then get to Chihuahua, about a few miles into the city you will see a Holiday Inn and a Denny´s restaurant with american menu...or if you like something else get to Ave. de la Juventud also known as Periferico de La Juventud, and you will find several hotel names that you are familiar with, (Westin, City Express, Hampton Inn, Microtel.) while in chihuahua visit: Quinta Gameros http://mx.images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?p=quinta+gameros&fr=yfp-t-340&toggle=1&cop=&ei=UTF-8 Palacio de Gobierno: http://mx.images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?p=Palacio+de+Gobierno+Chihuahua&y=Buscar&fr=yfp-t-340&ei=utf-8&js=1&x=wrt and many other museums in Down Town Area. The next day I´ll suggest you to stay at Zacatecas not Aguascalientes. and visit the downtown area of this old mining beautiful town. http://mx.images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?p=zacatecas&y=Buscar&fr=yfp-t-340&ei=utf-8&js=1&x=wrt After that you will be like 5 hours away from San Miguel A. If you are bringing Navajo style pottery, take in cosideration that San Miguel and the State of Guanajuato is one that have a big variety of potery...but not in the same style than the navajo, however Chihuahua makes a similar kind of pottery called Mata Ortiz. http://mx.images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?p=mata+ortiz&y=Buscar&fr=yfp-t-340&ei=utf-8&js=1&x=wrt
Answer 3 :
Sounds like a good plan to me. Make sure you have car insurance for Mexico. You might take a few things with you that could be useful, like fan belts. . . but why don't you ask your mechanic in Albuq.? Buena suerte.

About what is the least expensive way to travel Rte 66 E to W

What is the least expensive way to travel Rte 66 E to W?
I want to rent a car from Chicago [WHERE RTE 66 STARTS] drive to L.A. [WHERE RTE 66 ENDS] and fly home. I also read that taking a train from Albuquerque [IN NEW MEXICO-YES N.M. IS PART OF THE USA] to L.A. was a safe bet considering crossing the desert is pretty harsh. But driving a rental one way costs extra - anyway to get around that? I don't think, even if I had the time, that driving my own car would be a wise choice. It's pretty new, but mechanics have a way of making my cars old fast so i'd rather avoid meeting them on the road. BTW It's all about the traveling with my family, not about breaking records. P.S. IF YOUR NOT SURE AND YOU'RE NOT GOING TO DO ANY RESEARCH HOW ABOUT YOU DON'T ANSWER. I CAN MAKE UP DUMB SCENERIOS ALL BY MYSELF.

Bear with me for a while I'll get back to you with the right answer .Friggin YA just made me lose 5 paragraphs by asking for a password. One would think that all this high -tech stuff would know when somebody was in the middle of writing something or at the very least would give a warning " Hi Mr.Danger , In exactly five minutes we are going to be asking you for a password, please finish up whatever you are writing so you don't get mad at YA when we dump it Thank you Mr.Danger."
Answer 2 :
a couple things about traveling route 66. I suggest that you rent a car and drive to L.A. and fly back (check with Southwest Airlines they have the cheapest routes at this time). The route runs close to interstates all the way so do not be afraid to drive the desert. Count on at least 10 days to make the trip all the way assuming you stop and some of the attractions. Please take a look at website www.historic66.com. There are maps and guides that tell much about the road and some of its attractions. I bought the maps and guides from there and am well pleased with them. I wish you a safe and enjoyable trip. If you have more questions, feel free to email me.

About what would be the cheapest way to travel to Las Vegas besides driving

What would be the cheapest way to travel to Las Vegas besides driving?
I'm going out for a fun getaway from Albuquerque NM to Las Vegas NV. I always drive when I go but don't feel like driving there this time, yet I know I can drive there for about $50-$60 bucks. Does anyone know any Amtrak promo codes for this area and month or airline discounts. I'm trying not to spend a lot of money (I'd rather spend it on fun in Vegas). Please no spam.

Answer 1 :
a grey hound bus.
Answer 2 :
Greyhound bus would be cheaper, and almost as quick for a trip that short. You can meet interesting folks on a bus sometimes............
Answer 3 :
I flew out of Albuquerque to Vegas in August. We bought our tickets well in advance through southwest airlines and it wasn't bad at all. Definately better than driving (which we had done twice before from Alb!)
Answer 4 :
Well, what I did was to enroll in a bunch of traveling agencies i.e. Orbitz, Priceline, Expedia. They will reward you wilth kewl discounts. I just got a $75 coupon...3 night stay with plane and shuttle to and from the casino (Tropicana) for $170 per person. You should search around and have fun!

About how do you travel cross country with little money

How do you travel cross country with little money?
I am planning on going to Albuquerque, New Mexico and I live in South Carolina. I have very little money, but not enough to buy a plane ticket. I am 20 years old and currently going to community college for this semester then I am planning on leaving for NM. I've tried to get jobs for more money but no one is hiring -if that helps- (I would never hitch-hike) How can I go about getting to Albuquerque?

Answer 1 :
I you knew someone who was going all or part of the way, you could help them pay for gas and hitch a ride with them. Other than that, the cheapest way to go would be Greyhound. You could take the bus all of the way, or if you knew someone who could bring you part of the way, you could take the bus the rest of the way. I wouldn't hitchhike, either.
Answer 2 :
you could ride a bus or maybe a train.
Answer 3 :
Actually what you plan on doing sound like alot of fun. I am a foreinger living in Asia and I have done this type of thing when I go traveling. First, I would advise staying in hostels or couch surfing. Check Hostelbookers.com or a website of couch surfing (couchsurfing.net....I forget). Next, check for buses like greyhound or trains. Also, check for rideshares like on craigslist.com or something. Also, think about a motorcycle. if you can find a cheap one, it costs next to nothing filling the tank. Good luck but make sure to plan a route or specific city destinations to make sure your staying on track. Also, bring maps of those places to help plan for the unexpected.

About does anyone know of a reasonable way to travel between Santa Fe, NM and Denver/Fort Collins, CO

Does anyone know of a reasonable way to travel between Santa Fe, NM and Denver/Fort Collins, CO?
I need to find a way to travel from Santa Fe to Fort Collins or Denver (on Aug. 30th). I have looked into Greyhound and Amtrak but nothing really seems to run from Santa Fe and the schedule (from Albuquerque) does not quite fit. Renting a car is really expensive for this trip. Any other option or opinion would be very much appreciated. THANKS!!

There aren't many choice except flying, driving, or taking a bus. Your cheapest bet would be a bus. If you don't have a car, driving could be rather expensive. However, you could check out Allegiant Air Flights. They fly out of the Loveland/Fort Collins airport. I'm not sure if they have flights to Sante Fe but you could always check them out. http://www.fortloveair.com/

Albuquerque and Raton are approximately 220 miles apart. A car leaves Raton bound for Albuquerque, and it is t?
Albuquerque and Raton are approximately 220 miles apart. A car leaves Raton bound for Albuquerque, and it is traveling at 55 miles per hour. At the same time, a second car leaves Albuquerque bound for Raton, and it is traveling at 45 miles per hour. In how many hours will the cars meet? how step by step and an answer please.

Answer 1 :
I thought of the question like this, although it may be slightly nontraditional. Car A travels 55 mph, Car B travels 45 mph, together they can cover 100 mph. 220 / 100 = 2.2 hours. Car A travels (55*2.2) = 121 miles from Alb. and meets car B (45*2.2) = 99 miles from Raton.

About how far away is Albuquerque, NM from the Mojave Desert

How far away is Albuquerque, NM from the Mojave Desert?
My family and I are taking a trip from Albuquerque to California, I have heard the hardest part of this trip is the passing through the Mojave Desert because its scorching HOT. So I would like to travel through there in the night. So if any one knows how many hours it is away, that way i can leave accordingly from Albuquerque, Thanx We will be traveling at the end of Oct, We were also thinking about leaving Albuquerque 12 midnight Taking I 40 to California

Answer 1 :
Well, it depends on what time of the year you are traveling because I went through the Mojave Desert in Dec 1998 and there was a blizzard, all roads and highways were closed, we had to stay in Mojave for the night. "Winter months bring temperatures dipping to below 20 °F (-7 °C) on valley floors. In longer periods between storm systems, winter temperatures in valleys can approach 80 °F (27 °C)." Definitely check the weather as you get closer because it can change. Here are some average temps for the year: http://www.go-california.com/Mojave-Desert/Weather/ The Mojave Desert is actually starts in Arizona but if you are taking 40 all the way to CA, then Needles is the place you need to look up the weather for first and it's about 7hrs from Albuquerque so if you leave at 10a - noon, you can go through the desert at night, but it gets cold so you might run into snow, like I did in 1998. Update: shouldn't be too hot at the end of Oct, maxing out in the 80s.
Answer 2 :
I suppose it depends on your exact rout. the Mojave starts in western Arizona...see 1st site. then see 2nd site for map and distance.

About where can i work? New York

do U believe that mini jets like the eclipse 500 jets will make air travel more affordable?

Not for the consumer. The VLJ's are marketed towards the owner/operator and will primarily be used for small charter operations or play things for rich people. I personally don't believe it will affect airline travel at the least bit.
